Can you picture David Tennant as 007? Well, the actor has revealed that he was once a contender for the iconic role, though he didn't realize it at the time.
When speaking with Paapa Essiedu during the latest Acting for Others podcast, Tennant said that he found out that he was once "on the list" from a director who worked with Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
Tennant recalled: "I went, 'What time?' He went, 'The last time.' I suppose he meant Daniel Craig, because before that I'd have been a child. I think it was a long list and I don’t think I was ever near the top of it, but apparently so."
Craig's casting as Bond was announced in October 2005, just a month before Tennant made his first appearance in Doctor Who. We can't know for certain, but it seems very possible that he was n in contention to play two hugely high-profile roles – the Doctor and James Bond – at roughly the same time.
Asked by Essiedu if he could imagine what life would have been like if he had been cast as 007, Tennant replied: "Yeah, I think it's probably a bit of a game changer. Isn't it? That kind of, uh, that level of celebrity… yeah, I don't know."
David Tennant sounds pretty surprise by this news. What about you?
