Filming has begun on Beyond Paradise, the Death in Paradise spinoff series revolving around Kris Marshall's character DI Humphrey Goodman and his partner Martha (Sally Bretton).
To mark the start of shooting, the BBC has announced three new cast members. You can look for Ahmadi (Innocent, Doctor Who), Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls, Pistol) and Felicity Montagu (Nighty Night, I'm Alan Partridge).
Both Ahmadi and Llewelyn are playing police officers, named DS Esther Williams and PC Kelby Hartford, respectively. Montagu is portraying a civilian support person called Margo Martins. The series is being filmed in South-West England and takes place in a small country town.
The BBC has also released a brief plot synopsis for the spinoff series, which teases: "Seeking a quieter life away from the stress of the city, Humphrey (Marshall) has taken a job as a Detective Inspector in fiancée Martha’s (Bretton) hometown. However, they soon find that country life is anything but peaceful and Humphrey can’t help but be distracted by the town’s surprisingly high crime rate with a new, and very different, case challenging him and the team each week."
Marshall's Humphrey Goodman was one of the main characters in Death in Paradise from 2014 to 2017, so he's stepping back into the role after a five-year break. Bretton's character Martha appeared in various episodes in 2016 and 2017.
The spinoff series is a co-production between the BBC and BritBox and counts Death in Paradise creator Robert Thorogood as its co-creator. We can't wait to find out more about what it will entail.
