It seems like there are never-ending ways to adapt William Shakespeare’s work for the screen and here we are again, with a new movie coming out.
Denzel Washington steps into the role of General Macbeth, who craves to be king, in The Tragedy of Macbeth, reports ComingSoon.net.
In Shakespeare’s original play, Macbeth is Scottish, but Washington speaks with his native American accent. While it may not be true to the source material, Washington’s performance is beyond commanding.
In the recently released trailer, it’s as if this is how Macbeth was meant to be heard:

Washington’s delivery of the lines is drenched with passion, and with that, we can feel Macbeth’s desperation coming off the screen.
It’s not just the words, it’s the glint in his eye and the smirk, which tells us that he's planning something.
Macbeth doesn’t do it alone, he has the support of his devoted wife, Lady Macbeth, portrayed by the just as amazing France McDormand.
Lady Macbeth’s loyalty is equally matched by her want.
It seems like these two are a perfect match, seeking to take over the throne, no matter the cost.
And, who can we thank for this inventive interpretation? That would be Joel Coen.
You may be more used to seeing the term The Coen Brothers, as Joel typically collaborates with his brother Ethan Coen.
This is Joel’s first time writing and directing a feature film solo.
The Tragedy of Macbeth is currently in theaters and heading to Apple TV+ on January 14.
Do you think the movie being in black and white adds to the drama of it all?
