There was a brief debate over who would be up next to play Batman, with chatter about both Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult in the running. As of Friday (May 31), the internet was ablaze with news that Pattinson had won the part.

But, it wasn't officially-official and was being reported as "in negotiations" and "we hear," versus coming directly from Pattinson or the filmmakers.

We waited it out, which was worth the couple days, as 2021's The Batman director Matt Reeves turned to Twitter Sunday evening to officially announce Pattinson is in fact the next Caped Crusader.

OK, Reeves didn't actually write out a caption confirming the casting, but instead relied on three bat emoticons to speak for him. That works for us, it got the job done. He also included a clip of Pattinson from the 2017 film Good Time.

The storyline has yet to be revealed, as of yet.

Pattinson is still probably best known for his role as vampire Edward Cullen from the YA Twilight series (2008-2012). But, since then we've seen him take on a variety of roles in films like 2014's Maps to the Stars, 2016's The Lost City of Z and most recently in The Lighthouse, opposite Willem Dafoe, which just premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
