There's a new Thor moving coming out, and Taika Waititi (Jojo Rabbit) is handling writing and directing duties. This isn't his first time stepping into the Marvel Universe — he also directed 2017's Thor: Ragnorak.
Thor premiered in 2011, directed by Kenneth Branagh, and we're now heading into the fourth film, entitled Thor: Love and Thunder.
The plot is pulled from the 2014 comic-book storyline, where Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is able to pick up Thor's hammer, called Mjölnir, earning her the title of Goddess of Thunder.
Waititi talks to Empire Online about the storyline and what to expect, saying, "Well, just between (me and) you and the readers, I’ve done some crazy sh*t in my life. I’ve lived, like, ten lifetimes. But it’s the craziest film I’ve ever done."
Whoa, that is quite the testimonial and makes us wonder what is IN this film.
We mentioned Portman will be returning to reprise her role as Jane Foster, who will be upgraded to Mighty Thor. We can also look for Christian Bale as Gorr, God the Butcher, and Russell Crowe as Zeus. Oh, and we buried the lead, Chris Hemsworth will return to reprise his role as the title character, Thor.
So, what is Waititi going to do with this star-studded cast? He talks about the making of the film a bit, saying, "If you wrote down all the elements of this film, it shouldn’t make sense. It’s almost like it shouldn’t be made. If you walked into a room and said, ‘I want this and this and this.’ Who’s in it? These people. What are you going to call it? Love And Thunder. I mean, you’d never work again. Maybe I won’t after this."
We give him some credit, that he will indeed work again. But, we do like his forthrightness.
And, while the storyline is brief, the title itself does give some hints. Like, will Foster and Thor get back together? We do enjoy when Marvel throws in a romantic storyline. It makes things more interesting, like Gods have feelings, too.
It appears it's not just us, with Waititi confirming there will be romance, saying, "It’s very different from Ragnarok. It’s crazier. I’ll tell you what’s different. There’ll be far more emotion in this film. And a lot more love. And a lot more thunder. And a lot more Thor, if you’ve seen the photos."
We'll also be seeing characters from Galaxy of the Guardians, including Chris Pratt as Peter Quill and Karen Gillan as Nebula.
It doesn't look like Loki will be in attendance, but we understand, he's over at Disney+ starring in a TV series.
Does this sound as crazy as Taika Waititi promises it to be?
