'Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker Says Goodbye to Two Cast Members: 'I Was Absolutely Beside Myself'

Jodie Whittaker joined Doctor Who in 2017, taking on the role of the iconic Time Lord, and becoming a pop culture icon herself, being the first woman to portray the Doctor. Whittaker wasn't the only new actor to join the long-running series, we also saw Bradley Walsh and Tosin Cole as the Doctor's friends, along with Mandip Gill.

Whittaker, Walsh and Cole have had a good run together, but, as previously reported by the BBC, the forthcoming New Year's Day Special, "Revolution of the Daleks," will mark the final appearance for Walsh and Cole.

Whittaker recently had a catch-up with Entertainment Weekly and discussed what it was like filming the special, knowing she would no longer be working with her co-stars. Whittaker started off by saying, "I was absolutely beside myself."

She went on to elaborate about how hard it hit her, saying, "I don’t have a poker face. It’s my actual job, so I should be better at it. But I remember when they called wrap on that day, Tosin was like, 'Calm Down!' I’d gone, I’d absolutely gone."

It's quite an experience to join Doctor Who, with these three all doing it together, and it clearly had an impact on Whittaker: "In a way, it’s just reflective of the time we’ve had and this journey. I'm really lucky. Me and Mandip are still in the journey, but, because it was the end of us four, and us four have been so tight, it was one of those things."

While it might be bittersweet for Whittaker to have to say goodbye, she's extremely grateful, saying, "I know that in my life, this is one of the best things that will ever happen to me and the best times that I will ever have on set. This job is this thing that is untouchable. There’ll be a million other amazing experiences, hopefully. But if I do this for 20 seasons I know my first time as the Doctor was with this family as this four and this is our time — a Goonies moment, it’s our time! I felt very much like a kid in a well. I was so sad."

Well, hopefully it wasn't all sad, and they had a nice time at the wrap party.

And happy times are ahead, as we're still due to watch their final moments on-screen together with Doctor Who's "Revolution of the Daleks" airing on BBC America this coming January 1.
