Eddie Redmayne Is Back on Set for 'Fantastic Beasts 3': 'It's Fizzing'
In 2016, Eddie Redmayne stepped into the Harry Potter world, starring in the prequel Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them as wizard Newt Scamander. He reprised the role in the 2018 sequel Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
A third installment has been planned for a while but was delayed due to social distancing constraints. We're happy to report, filming is... back on.
Redmayne had a chat with Cinema Blend, talking about what it's like to be back on-set, saying, "We’re two weeks in, and again, it’s a whole new process. It’s a whole new normal."
He gave some background, saying they test frequently and wear masks.
He was concerned this may prove to be a hindrance, saying, "I wondered, actually, whether the masks would affect creativity, in some ways. Maybe that was a bit ignorant, but I just thought, as humans, do we need interaction to spark from each other."
But, he ended the chat with some uplifting news: "What is really reassuring is that it is a different process, but it still feels like it’s fizzing and that everyone is working at the top of their game."
It's not ignorant of him to recognize the importance of human interaction, and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) addressed the same topic when discussing filming the stage production of Lungs, opposite Claire Foy (The Crown).
Like Redmayne, they worked around the restrictions, keeping safety in mind.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 3 is expected to release in 2021. It may seem far off, but we have a feeling it will be here before we know it.
While there are no details on the storyline yet, we can also look for original cast members Katherine Waterston, Jude Law, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller and Alison Sudol, with David Yates returning to direct.
