Entourage creator Doug Ellin is teaming up with Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn. They are putting their focus on soccer (football in the U.K.), collaborating on the forthcoming series Day 1's, reports Empire online.
It's not just these two, either: French soccer star Thierry Henry will be an executive producer and consultant/expert at being a sports legend.
The series is co-created by Ellin and Chris Case (Mad About You), with Vaughn directing the pilot episode. The 10-part series revolves around a young athlete named Dezmond King and how he advances in the world of soccer, taking his friends along with him.
Ellin talked to Empire about transitioning from a story about breaking into Hollywood to entering the English Premiere League, saying, "I love writing about friends who are family and this show gives us a great new platform to do that."
If the meaning of the title, Day 1's, doesn't jump off the page, it basically means, someone you've known from day one (and can count on).
Henry talks about how he got involved in the project, having made a cameo in the Entourage movie, saying, "I never would have thought that I would be part of bringing a new TV show to life."
And, now here he is, a producer and consultant: "Hopefully I can share some of my experiences as this topic is much closer to my heart."
Dreams do come true, even the ones you never saw coming.
Filming is predicted to begin in 2021. It hasn't been confirmed where to look for the series, just yet.
