First Look: Edgar Wright Shares Creepy Still from 'Last Night in Soho'

Writer-director Edgar Wright has shared a creepy first image from his new psychological horror movie Last Night in Soho.

The image shows rising star Thomasin McKenzie, one of the film's main cast members, looking pretty darn terrified. In his caption, Wright, known for directing Baby Driver and his collaborations with Simon Pegg including Shaun of the Dead, confirmed that shooting on the movie is now complete.

Last Night in Soho's impressive cast also includes former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, Anya Taylor-Joy (The Witch), Michael Ajao (Attack the Block), Synnøve Karlsen, and BAFTA winner Rita Tushingham (Doctor Zhivago).

Two Brit acting legends, Dame Diana Rigg and Terence Stamp, joined the cast in June, too.

Wright hasn't revealed any plot details about the movie, but we do know that he co-wrote the screenplay with former Penny Dreadful staff writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns.

And Soho is definitely a terrific setting for a psychological horror movie. Though this central London district has been gentrified over the last two decades, it retains definite echoes of its red light district past. It also has a rich musical heritage – Sir Elton John wrote "Your Song" on Soho's Denmark Street – and is home to London's main LGBTQ village.

Wright has said of the movie, which is understood to be influenced by the classic films Don't Look Now and Repulsion: "I realized I had never made a film about central London – specifically Soho, somewhere I’ve spent a huge amount of time in the last 25 years."

He added, perhaps a little cryptically: "This movie is about the London I’ve existed in."

Last Night in Soho is set for release on Sept. 25, 2020. Just over a year to wait!
