First Look: Eva Green Stars as Brothel Madam in 'The Luminaries' Miniseries
There's no word on whether or not Eva Green will return for the Penny Dreadful sequel, but that doesn't mean she's home twiddling her thumbs. We can look for the French actress in the BBC six-part miniseries The Luminaries, as previously reported by Anglophenia.
The period drama is set in 1860s New Zealand during the gold rush, with Green to take on the role of Lydia Wells. Wells is a woman before her time, having an entrepreneurial spirit, running her own business... which happens to be a brothel.
Here's a peek at Green in character, looking quite exquisite and dubiously confident. There is definitely something on her mind. What could it be!?

The story follows Anna Wetherell (Eve Hewson) who travels from Britain to New Zealand in search of a new life. There she meets a love interest, Emery Staines (Himesh Patel). Their lives keep overlapping based on pure chance, leaving the two lovers to wonder: "Do we make our fortunes, or do our fortunes make us?," according to the series' official description.
In addition to traversing this new relationship, Anna finds trouble, encountering murder, blackmail and betrayal (oh my!).
The miniseries is based on Eleanor Catton’s 2013 Man Booker Prize-winning novel, with the author also writing the script. The novel is over 800 pages long and it will be interesting to see how she condenses the story into six hour-long episodes.
There's no premiere date as of yet, but the series is set to air on BBC Two in the U.K. and TVNZ1 in New Zealand. We're still waiting on where to watch in the U.S.
