James Nesbitt is returning for a second season of Bloodlands, joined by an "enigmatic" new character played by Victoria Smurfit (Once Upon a Time, Marcella), reports BBC Media Centre.
First look images show Nesbitt back in action as DCI Tom Brannick, a police officer operating in the rural area of Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland's County Down. The BBC has also released a short plot synopsis for the new season that reveals Smurfit is playing Olivia Doyle, the widow of a crooked accountant who's been murdered.
Here's a peek at her in character:

The BBC's plot synopsis teases: "As they try to solve the riddle her husband left behind, and become more and more immersed in the puzzle of each other, Tom and Olivia draw in Tom’s fellow officers DS Niamh McGovern (Charlene McKenna), DCS Jackie Twomey (Lorcan Cranitch) and DC "Birdy" Bird (Chris Walley), as well as Tom’s daughter, Izzy (Lola Petticrew) until deceit and betrayal force Tom to question just what lengths he will go to, to keep his legacy intact."
The first season of Bloodlands premiered last year and is available to stream on Acorn TV, which will also be the U.S. home of the new season. It's written by Chris Brandon and counts Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio among its executive producers. We recently included it in our feature on 7 great shows set and filmed in Northern Ireland.
