Kate Winslet's role as Lee Miller in Lee seems like a passion project for the actress, and the first image released from the film's set is definitely intense.
It shows Winslet in combat gear as Miller, an American model-turned-photographer who covered World War II in Europe for British Vogue. Winslet is pictured next to a typical London "black cab," which suggests the scene in question is set during the German bombing campaign, or "Blitz," of the British capital.
Winslet, who is also a producer on the movie, is currently shooting Lee in Croatia with director Ellen Kuras. In a press release accompanying the first-look image, she said: "To me, she was a life force to be reckoned with, so much more than an object of attention from famous men with whom she is associated. This photographer, writer, reporter, did everything she did with love, lust, and courage, and is an inspiration of what you can achieve, and what you can bear, if you dare to take life firmly by the hands and live it at full throttle."
Meanwhile, two new cast members have joined Winslet in the film. Alexander Skarsgård will appear as surrealist painter Roland Penrose, a role which was previously due to be played by Jude Law, while Andy Samberg will portray Life Magazine photographer David E. Scherman. They join previously announced cast members Josh O'Connor, Marion Cotillard, Samuel Barnett, and Andrea Riseborough. It's quite a talent list.
Last month, it was reported that Winslet suffered a fall while shooting the movie, but a rep quickly confirmed she was "fine" after paying a visit to the hospital.
