In 2021, Damian Lewis announced his exit from the long-running series Billions. And here he is now, turning his attention to a new project. Lewis is set to star opposite another Anglo favorite, Guy Pearce, in the forthcoming miniseries A Spy Among Friends, reports ComingSoon.net.
The six-part series is based on Ben Macintyre’s 2014 book. The story revolves around two friends, who are both spies, named Nicholas Elliott (Lewis) and Kim Philby (Pearce). Elliot is an MI6 agent, who works with Philby, a British intelligence officer who doubles as a KGB agent.
The series, which is headed to MGM+ in the U.S. and ITVX in the U.K., reimagines the real-life friendship of these two men. Michael Wright, head of MGM, elaborates on what to expect, saying in a statement: Alex Cary has brilliantly adapted Ben Macintyre’s historical novel about friendship, loyalty, and betrayal. He, along with Nick Murphy, Damian Lewis, and the remarkable cast led by Lewis and Guy Pearce, have brought to life this riveting tale of two British spies whose deep personal bond and long friendship is challenged by duplicity and deception.”
