Frances de la Tour Discusses Her Scene Being Cut from 'Love Actually'

(Getty Images)Richard Curtis' Christmas classic Love Actually is a joy to watch (and re-watch) because it features so many different couples, but it could have been even more romantic.
In a new interview with The Independent, Frances de la Tour has spoken about her poignant storyline with Anne Reid, which sadly got chopped from the movie's final cut before it opened in 2003. "Oh yes, we had a lovely scene," de la Tour recalled. "And I think it was the only gay scene. It's odd that they cut it. Maybe it was too dark to bring into it. Because it ended up being quite a light and fluffy film, didn't it?"
She is absolutely right to point out the scene's darkness in comparison to the rest of the movie. She plays a terminally ill woman whose partner, a school principal played by Reid, is later seen grieving for.
Still, de la Tour also revealed that "at least [Curtis] wrote to me and said we’re terribly sorry but it’s got to be cut." And thankfully, her scene was included as a bonus feature on the Love Actually DVD, which means you can watch it below. Be warned, though, that it might make you well up. While the scene didn't make it into the movie what do you think about it?
