If you haven't yet watched Sunday's Doctor Who special, "The Power of the Doctor," you may want to look away now. But if you have watched this thrilling and surprising episode, things are only going to get more exciting.
After Jodie Whittaker's Doctor regenerated into David Tennant's Doctor at the end of the episode, the full extent of Tennant's return has been confirmed on the show's website. He'll be back for three special episodes airing in November 2023 as the show celebrates its 60th anniversary, and he'll be joined in all of them by Catherine Tate's Donna Noble. At that time, we will get to meet Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor.
Returning showrunner Russell T Davies said: "If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we've got plenty more surprises on the way! The path to Ncuti's Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!"
It's worth noting that the Doctor Who website describes Tennant as the "Fourteenth Doctor." He was previously the Tenth Doctor, of course, but is there any material difference between the two? We'll just have to wait to find out. In the meantime, we can bid a fond farewell to Jodie Whittaker's Doctor and Mandip Gill's Yasmin Khan, who both said goodbye to the TARDIS in Sunday's special.
