We are not hugely surprised to learn Helen Mirren has been recognized for her beauty. And, we’re also not surprised that she’s a little conflicted over it, as she’s been known to downplay this kind of acknowledgment in the past.
Mirren appears on the cover of People magazine’s Beautiful issue, which comes out this week, reports Today. If you haven’t seen the cover just yet, here’s a peek:

We admire Mirren for the work she does and the kind words she shares during public appearances. And, yes, she is a stunner. But, we agree, it’s more about what a person is capable of versus their appearance.
Even so, this is happening. And, we’d like to tip our hat to her for embracing the compliment and still standing by her convictions. In an interview that accompanies the photo layout, Mirren says, “I was absolutely sort of gobstruck, as we say in England. I never considered myself ‘beautiful.’ And at my age! So, I was amazed.”
She explains her views on the matter: “We have other stuff, which is just as powerful as beauty. And I would like to see us celebrate those things… I love the word ‘swagger’ because I think swagger means, ‘I’m confident in myself, I’m presenting myself to the world, I’m enjoying the world around me.’”
She sums it all up, saying, “I think what is called the beauty industry should be called the swagger industry. We’re giving people swagger.”
Speaking of Mirren’s work, here she is swaggering on-screen:

We can’t get enough of Helen Mirren. What about you!?
