Hugh Laurie reigned over American TV from 2004 to 2012, starring in the breakthrough medical series House. He also did a stint on the HBO series Veep (2015-2017), created by Armando Iannucci.

And, here we are now, Laurie is teaming up with Iannucci once again, for the pilot of a new series called Avenue 5, reports Empire. The plot line has yet to be disclosed, but we know the series is set in space, it's sci-fi AND it's a comedy. It has all the makings of a hit, at least from our POV (three of our favorite genres).

Laurie will take on the lead role as Ryan Clark, the "charming and in-control American captain of the Avenue 5 (spaceship)."

The series is headed to HBO, which has ordered a pilot. If it takes, a series will follow and there are already multiple scripts ready to go once greenlit, according to Empire. Laurie and Iannucci also collaborated on the forthcoming The Personal History of David Copperfield, a biopic with Laurie taking on the role of Mr. Dick.

David Copperfield also stars Doctor Who's Peter Capaldi as Mr. Micawber, reuniting The Thick of It creator and star. The Charles Dickens adaptation is set to release in 2019.

We can also look for Laurie in the new Sherlock Holmes movie, Holmes and Watson, starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly as the iconic sleuth and sidekick, premiering December 26.
