The first Harry Potter book was published in 1997, with the boy wizard landing on the big screen in 2001. Now there’s talk of the character getting his own TV series, courtesy of Warner Bros.
Channing Dungey, who was named Chairwoman and CEO of Warner Bros. in 2020, has shared her thoughts on how to make this happen.
During a panel at the U.K. TV conference Content London, Dungey said, “There is a tremendous amount of ambition for that and we are engaged in a number of different conversations,” reports Variety.
While she can’t commit to a start date, talking about it is a start, with Dungey expanding on the above: “I wish I could tell you that something was imminent on the horizon, but there is a lot of interest and a lot of passion for it, so absolutely.”
She gives credit where due, acknowledging her team and the fanbase, saying, “What’s great is that you see how the audience is so engaged and so ready. Our unscripted team did a fantastic Return to Hogwarts special for HBO last year, that resonated so tremendously, then we did a quiz show, The Tournament of Houses, that Helen Mirren was the host for. The audience is ready, they want to go, so we’re just [trying] to figure out what the right next step is.”
In the meantime, let's go back to the beginning:
While it isn't concrete, it is interesting. What do you think of weekly installments of HP?
