James McAvoy played Charles Xavier (a.k.a. Professor X) in four X-Men movies that came out between 2011 and 2019, so at this stage, he probably expects to be asked about returning to the franchise.
However, it doesn't seem to be on the table for now. "I'm very quick to say, 'No, I'm done.' Or ‘I'm not that bothered about coming back.' Because you move forward," he told GQ. During the interview, he was also asked about whether Marvel boss Kevin Feige has contacted him about potentially dropping Professor X into an Avengers movie.
"I've definitely not got the call," McAvoy replied. "And if I did I would definitely not be telling you."
During the interview, McAvoy described his X-Men movies as "one of the most positive experiences I've had with a studio" and insisted he doesn't see them as just "money gigs."
However, he also revealed his major regret from his X-Men stint, saying: "My biggest criticism of what we did throughout the four movies was that after the first movie, we didn't take advantage of the relationship between [Xavier and Michael Fassbender’s Magneto], which really formed the backbone of the first film. So it was like, why did we just eject that massive weapon?"
Up next for McAvoy is the third and final season of His Dark Materials, in which he'll play a pivotal role as Lord Asriel. You can watch the latest trailer here.
