Season three of Victoria concluded on PBS earlier this month, and season four hasn't yet been confirmed by either the U.S. broadcaster or the show's U.K. network ITV.

However, the show's star Jenna Coleman, who has played Queen Victoria since the period drama launched in 2016, is already discussing who might replace her as an older version of the iconic monarch.

Acknowledging that she wouldn't be able to portray Victoria during the sovereign's later years, Coleman told the Radio Times: "There’s going to come a point where I have to [be recast]."

“But it’s going to be a hard thing to give over, especially as she gets older," the former Doctor Who actress added. "She’s becoming much more like everything that she’s kind of known for – her impatience and straightness and inability to hide how she feels. [Recasting] brings a lot of challenges and it’s hard as an actor – when you’ve taken it so far it’s hard to give it up.”

Coleman also came up with some suggestions as to which actress could replace her as Queen Victoria. However, as she noted, two of them are both pretty busy working on The Crown right now.

“There’s lots of people,” Colman said. “Emily Watson would be amazing, so would Imelda Staunton. Helena Bonham Carter would be good, but she’s busy right now. Olivia Colman was so good in The Favourite but she’s busy too.”

Of course, for many of us, the role of an older Queen Victoria is pretty much synonymous with Dame Judi Dench, who portrayed her in both Mrs Brown and Victoria & Abdul. Could she be tempted to play her again?
