Well over 40 years since the last episode, John Cleese is bringing back his classic British sitcom Fawlty Towers

Variety reports that he will write and star in the revival series alongside daughter Camilla Cleese, who is also an actor, writer, and comedian. Rob Reiner will serve as one of the revival's executive producers.

Created by Cleese and Connie BoothFawlty Towers originally ran on the BBC for just 12 episodes: six in 1975, followed by another six in 1979. In 2000, when the British Film Institute compiled a list of the 100 greatest British TV shows of all time, it finished in first position.

The original series followed Cleese's hot-tempered character Basil Fawlty and his more sensible wife Sybil (Prunella Scales) as they run a somewhat chaotic hotel in Torquay, Southwest England. Andrew Sachs, who passed away in 2016, co-starred as the hotel's Spanish waiter Manuel.

The new series will see Basil discover that he has a long-lost daughter, then team up with her to run a boutique hotel. There is no word yet on whether Booth – who played chambermaid Polly in the 1970s original as well as co-writing every episode – will be involved in any capacity. Scales, who announced in 2014 that she has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, is understood to have retired from acting.

The revival series is in the works at Castle Rock Television, the production company co-founded by Reiner, though there are no details yet on which network will air it. The 1970s original is available to stream on BritBox.
