Josh O'Connor and Paul Mescal to Star in Gay Romance Movie 'The History of Sound'

The Crown's Josh O'Connor and Normal People's Paul Mescal have been cast in The History of Sound, a gay romance movie based on an award-winning short story, Variety reports.
Oliver Hermanus
(Moffie, Beauty (Skoonheid)) is directing the big screen adaptation of Ben Shattuck's short story, which is available to read online here.
The story centers on two young men who decide to record the lives, voices, and music of their countrymen during World War I. The movie's official description teases: "In this snatched, short-lived moment in their young lives, and while discovering the epic sweep of the U.S., both men are deeply changed."
Shooting is due to start in summer 2022 in the U.S., U.K., and Italy. Hermanus said of the project: "This is an unexpected love story that needs to be told — it is a journey through the life of America, across the 20th century and the traditions of American folk music, all seen through the bond between two men immersed in the history of sound. This undeniably powerful story will certainly resonate with audiences the world over."
Both actors are definitely on the up and up right now. O'Connor won both Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his performance as Prince
Charles in the most recent season of The Crown. Meanwhile, Mescal is coming off a BAFTA win and Emmy nomination for his performance in the BBC coming-of-age miniseries Normal People.
