Josh O’Connor to Star as Archaeologist in Italian Movie ‘La Chimera’
The Crown's Josh O'Connor has lined up an intriguing lead role in the Italian movie La Chimera.
Variety reports that O'Connor will star as Arthur, a young British archaeologist who becomes embroiled in an international network of stolen historical artifacts. Set in the 1980s, La Chimera is being directed by Italian filmmaker Alice Rohrwacher, whose previous credits include the award-winning 2018 movie Happy as Lazarro.
"La Chimera is the story of a young English archaeologist who gets involved in the underground world of the ‘tombaroli,’ the nocturnal raiders of Etruscan tombs," Rohrwacher said in a statement. O'Connor's co-stars will include Isabella Rossellini (Blue Velvet) and Carole Duarte (The Invisible Life). Shooting is already underway in and around Southern Tuscany.
O'Connor won Emmy, Golden Globe, and BAFTA awards for his performance as Prince Charles in season four of The Crown. Though this was his most high-profile role to date, the 31-year-old actor is also known for his acclaimed performances in British indie films including God's Own Country, Hope Gap, and Emma. La Chimera definitely sounds like it will slot nicely onto his varied résumé.
It's the second new role O'Connor has been confirmed for in recent days. Last week The Hollywood Reporter brought news that he will star opposite Zendaya and West Side Story's Mike Faist in Challengers, a romantic drama movie from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino.
