Karl Urban is set to return for the third season of The Boys, which you can look for on June 3. The series revolves around suped-up human beings who use their powers for self-serving purposes and a group, referred to as The Boys, who fight to take them down.
In the first look trailer, we see that Urban’s character, Billy Butcher, now has superhuman abilities:
We’d like to think he plans to use his powers for good versus evil, but who’s to say it’s even up to him.
Urban talked to Entertainment Weekly about just that, saying, “That’s the dilemma: does Butcher become a superhero or a supervillain?”
He continues, asking other poignant questions, “In order to defeat the monster, do you become the monster? And I think that’s one of the cool things about this season is every character is faced with that choice. How far are they willing to go? What line are they willing to cross in order to achieve what they want to achieve?”
It makes us think of a rhetorical statement: does the end justify the means? Errr, probably not. We hope that he does use his powers to keep fighting the good fight.
One theme we can count on is that The Boys continue their quest to expose The Seven for what they are.
