First Look: Kate Winslet Shoots 'Avatar 2' Totally Underwater in Super-Impressive Set Photo
Avatar 2 producer Jon Landau has shared an incredible set photo of Kate Winslet shooting the sequel while fully submerged underwater.
In what looks like a very demanding scene, the actress can be seen wearing weights around her waist to keep her at the base of a water tank.
Winslet recently spoke about the new skills she acquired while shooting the sequel with her Titanic director James Cameron, telling The Hollywood Reporter: "I had to learn how to free-dive to play that role in Avatar, and that was just incredible. My longest breath-hold was seven minutes and 14 seconds, like crazy, crazy stuff.”
Discussing her role in the sequel, Winslet added cautiously: "Oh no, actually, I can’t. Yeah, I play a water person. I am a water person.”
Avatar 2 is due for release on December 16, 2022 – 13 years after Cameron's original Oscar-winning epic. Joining Winslet in the cast are Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Yeoh, and Vin Diesel.
Meanwhile, Winslet is building awards season buzz for her performance as Victorian paleontologist Mary Anning in queer romantic drama Ammonite, which co-stars Saoirse Ronan and opens in U.S. theaters November 13 after winning positive reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. The actress is already a seven-time Oscar nominee and one-time winner.
