Kate Winslet Stars as a Small-Town Detective in 'Mare of Easttown' Teaser Trailer

Last week, we mentioned Kate Winslet is set to star in the forthcoming Mare of Easttown miniseries, and now a teaser trailer has just been released.

The folks over at HBO made a fast turnaround on this one, and we are so pleased, as we're keen to see her as a small-town sleuth.

Winslet will take on the title role as a local detective named Mare Sheehan. As she investigates a murder, her life begins to unravel. We can also look for her Mildred Pierce co-star Guy Pearce as a creative writing professor.

We see the two of them getting chummy over a beer in a bar:

When Pearce's character learns she's a detective, he's a little put back. It's not that it's all that alarming, but it's surprising, because it's not often one actually meets a detective IRL. When Mare says to him, "You don't have any dead bodies hidden under your porch, do you?" things get a little un-chummy.

Okay, maybe it's time to be a bit alarmed (if he does).

As of last week with the casting announcement, there was no mention of who the victim is in the series. In the above trailer, Mare arrives to the scene where a dead body is found. We still don't know for sure, but we do see a pink bicycle in the water, meant for an adolescent. And later in the clip, we see Mare looking through files and there is a photo of a young girl.

Mare seems tired, defeated, and kind of over it, but this case might be enough for her to keep fighting the good fight.

Brad Ingelsby (Run All Night) will be the one filling in the blanks, writing every episode and acting as showrunner.

You can look for the limited series over at HBO on April 18.

This is a new kind of role for Kate Winslet. What do you think so far?
