We highly enjoyed Kirby Howell-Baptiste in the first season of Killing Eve as Elena. She has a new role on the books, set to star in the forthcoming Mr. Harrigan’s Phone.
The Netflix film is based on Stephen King’s short story, which can be found in his novella If It Bleeds.
Howell-Baptiste will be joining Donald Sutherland, who takes on the title role, reports Deadline.
The story follows a young boy, who befriends in an older gentleman. When Craig's friend passes away, he places a cell phone in the dead man's jacket pocket before being buried.
The boy finds himself missing his friend, and sends him a text. Clearly, he's not expecting a response, simply sending it out into the universe. But, when he does receive a text back, it’s bewildering.
Howell-Baptiste will take on the role of a teacher to the boy. Her character is described as “caring and concerned.”
There’s been other casting news of late, with Jaeden Martell to play the teen, named Craig.
We can also look for Joe Tippett, who we recently saw opposite Kate Winslet in Mare of Easttown. Tippet is set to take on the role of Craig’s father.
The project was first announced last year. There’s no start date, as of yet, but the casting machine is in full force.
In the meantime, if you’d like to read up on the original short story, here’s a New York Times review of If It Bleeds.
If you now find yourself thinking about Howell-Baptiste, you can also look for her in this year’s release of Cruella, opposite Emma Stone.
