If you're a WE tv watcher, then you're fully aware that the channel runs Law and Order marathons on a regular basis. So, while the character Elliot Stabler was written off in 2011, it really doesn't seem like it, as he's still popping up on TV in the current day.

The Law and Order franchise has a number of spinoff series, including SVU and Criminal Intent, and now, it appears there may be a new one in the works. And, guess who is going to take the lead? Yep, that's right, Christopher Meloni, who played Stabler from 1999 to 2011.

In the SVU (Special Victims Unit) series, Stabler and his partner Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) investigated crimes based in NYC, that were of a sexual nature. The cast was rounded out with Dann Florek as Captain Cragen and Ice-T and Richard Belzer playing fellow detectives. The SVU series is still on air, with new episodes coming out still starring Hargitay, but sans Elliot Stabler.

Deadline has confirmed that Meloni will be reprising the role of Elliot Stabler for a 13-part police procedural series, based in NYC. He will be coming out of retirement to head up the organized crime unit. It's not 100% that it will be a part of the Law and Order franchise, but it's hinted at that... maybe. And, maybe there will be some sort of crossover with SVU and overlap with his former partner Benson.

That's a lot of "maybes," but, the fact that Elliot Stabler is back after close to a decade has us pretty psyched. He is definitely our favorite character out of the bunch.

In addition to Law and Order: SVU, we've seen Meloni in the 2017 Wet Hot American Summer reboot series (based on the 2001 movie he also starred in), Happy! (2017-2019), 2019's The Handmaid's Tale, and most recently, he's provided the voice for Commissioner Gordon in the animated Harley Quinn series (2019-2020).
