Tributes are being paid to British showbiz legend Lionel Blair following his death at age 92.
Blair, whose career in the entertainment industry spanned more than 75 years, passed away on Thursday morning (November 4), his agent informed the BBC
Blair began his acting career in London's West End in the 1940s before finding greater fame in subsequent decades as a dancer, choreographer, and TV personality. He portrayed a choreographer in The Beatles' classic 1964 film A Hard Day's Night, and also had a small role opposite David Bowie in the 1986 movie musical Absolute Beginners.
Paying tribute to Blair on Twitter, award-winning choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne wrote: "When I was growing up in the 60’s and 70’s #LionelBlair was the most famous dancer in the country… more of a household name than any ballet star! A true dance legend. RIP dear man."LionelBlairTweet1

Blair was also known for presenting the U.K. version of
Name That Tune in the 1980s and appearing on the long-running British quiz show Give Us a Clue from the late 1970s until the early 1990s. In 2007, he gamely sent himself up in an episode of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's sitcom Extras.
Blair was a well-liked figure in the British entertainment industry who retained his dancer's agility well into his eighties. "Sorry to hear that #LionelBlair has died," actor Sanjeev Bhaskar wrote on Twitter. "Met him at numerous evenings over the years and he was always a gent, warm and fun. I loved the fact that he’d always pepper every conversation with a bit of a tap dance. Every single time. And it was glorious."LionelBlairTweet2(Photo: Twitter)
