Tributes are being paid to Sally Kellerman, the actress who earned an Oscar nomination for her performance in Robert Altman's dark comedy film M*A*S*H, following her death at age 84.
Kellerman, who had been suffering from dementia, died Thursday (February 24) at an assisted living facility in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, her son Jack Krane told The Hollywood Reporter.
During a 60-year career, Kellerman amassed more than 150 acting credits, according to IMDb. After her Oscar-nominated portrayal of Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan in Altman's classic 1970 movie M*A*S*H, Kellerman appeared in several of the director's other films including 1970's Brewster McCloud and 1992's The Player. Among her other notable movie appearances were the 1980 coming-of-age drama Foxes, in which she played Jodie Foster's mom and the 1986 comedy Back to School.
She also appeared in episodes of numerous high-profile TV shows including The Twilight Zone, Star Trek, Columbo, Diagnosis Murder and Murder She Wrote. Her final role came in a 2017 episode of the Hulu comedy series Difficult People.
Marc Maron, who appeared opposite Kellerman in his IFC sitcom Maron, wrote on Twitter: "Sally Kellerman was radiant and beautiful and fun and so great to work with. She played my mom on my series ‘Maron.’ My real mom was very flattered and a bit jealous. I’m sad she’s gone. RIP."
