The Dark Crystal is being turned into a TV series, with Helena Bonham-Carter, Mark Hamill and Simon Pegg among the actors lending their voices to puppets.

Netflix announced yesterday (December 17) that the new series Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance would return to the world of Jim Henson and Frank Oz's beloved 1982 movie, blending old-school puppetry and animatronics with animated CGI backgrounds to recreate the planet Thra.

The ten-part series is set many years before the events of the film, however, when a sickness spreads across the land and three Gelflings — voiced by Taron Egerton, Anya Taylor-Joy and Nathalie Emmanuel — must set off on a quest to find the evil Skeksis and prevent their planet from dying.

Also playing Gelflings, the race of elf-like creatures native to the planet Thra, are Bonham-Carter, Outlander's Caitriona Balfe, Sherlock's Toby Jones, Game of Thrones' Natalie Dormer, Alicia Vikander (Lara Croft), comedian Eddie Izzard, Mark Strong (Kingsman), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Doctor Who), Theo James (Divergent), Harris Dickinson (Trust), and Shazad Latif (Penny Dreadful).

And that's not all! Hamill, Pegg, and Jason Isaacs will also star as inhabitants of Thra, as well as Keegan-Michael Key, Andy Samberg, Harvey Fierstein, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Missing) and Ralph Ineson (Game of Thrones).

And finally, Aughra — the mysterious hermit with a detachable eye — will be voiced by The Happytime Murders' Donna Kimball.

Frankly, at this point it'd be easier to start listing the actors NOT in the show. Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company, told The Hollywood Reporter: "It is humbling to see so many truly gifted actors join the Dark Crystal universe by adding their voices to Age of Resistance."

"As with the original film, we are now adding a voice cast of the highest caliber that will provide textures and range to the puppetry performances that are the heart of the series. It is thrilling to see this assembled team of artists, puppeteers and now voice actors, many inspired by my father's original film, work together to realize this unique world – through performance and craft – at a scale that is rarely seen today."

Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance premieres in 2019.
