There is a lot going on in the Whoniverse. Russell T Davies is returning as showrunner, the next Doctor has been announced (Ncuti Gatwa) and fan favorite David Tennant is returning as the Tenth Doctor to makes a guest appearance.
It seems Matt Smith, who portrayed the  Eleventh Doctor from 2010 to 2014, has been across this news as well and he has some nice words to share on the matter.
When speaking to Rolling Stone U.K., he said of Tennant’s return, “What a Doctor, what an actor, what a bloke. Arguably David is… a totally seminal Doctor.”
The word “bloke” always stands out to us, as it comes across as both friendly and respectful. There is a lot packed into one word. To us, being American, it sounds like, “What a good guy.”
It's not just Tennant, he said of Gatwa, "He will be fabulous."
Smith also talked about his career since starring as the Doctor, saying: “It’s strange, as an actor. You’re sort of rolling the dice with every job, and it could go either way. So you know, it’s felt challenging. Has it been as good as some people’s trajectories and careers? Probably not. Is it as bad as some others? Probably not. Am I somewhere in the middle? Probably, yeah.”
That is a very sensible way of looking back at ten years of work.
Since ending his run on DW, Smith has starred in feature films like 2015’s Terminator Genisys, 2016’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and more recently, he starred in The Crown (2016-2017) as Prince Philip and in Edgar Wright's Last Night in Soho (2021).
You can look for Smith in the forthcoming Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, premiering on August 21.
Everyone has their favorite Doctor. Which one is yours!?
