Hugh Jackman is set to star in director Florian Zeller’s The Son, based on his stage play. It’s not just Jackman, you can also look for Laura Dern, Vanessa Kirby, Anthony Hopkins, and Zen McGrath, reports Empire.
Jackman takes on the role of family man Peter, who is in his second marriage and just had a baby. But he has a teenage son from his first marriage, who's feeling left behind.
The new trailer kicks off with his ex-wife (Dern) and son (McGrath) showing up on his doorstep:
Peter is completely caught off guard, but even so, he takes his son in to live with him. From there, the story takes flight. Peter’s wife (Kirby) is bothered by his son’s presence, saying the look in his eye is “disturbing.” Please know, this isn’t a psychological thriller, it’s a family drama.
His son’s attitude toward his step-mother isn’t deranged, it’s disdain, with him announcing, “She wants to turn us against one another.” We see Hopkins as grandad, asking his son, “Is that why you came to see me, you’re blaming me for what happened?”
We don’t know exactly what he’s referring to, but we shall find out when The Son premieres on November 11.
If you missed it the first time around, Hopkins worked with Zeller on 2020’s The Father, starring opposite Olivia Colman:
There are a lot of moving parts to this story. What are your thoughts on this so far?
