New Trailer: James Nesbitt Stars as a Detective on a Mission in Crimes Series 'Bloodlands'

We really enjoyed James Nesbitt in the 2014 mystery-thriller The Missing. In the series, his young son disappears in a matter of seconds and he spends the season searching for him, with the help of a French detective (Tchéky Karyo).

This time around, Nesbitt will be playing the detective in the forthcoming crime series Bloodlands, executive-produced by Line of Duty creator Jed Mercurio, reports Radio Times.

While he takes the lead in investigating a new case, he's also a victim, saying the same killer murdered his wife. They're looking for an assassin, who they refer to as "Goliath."

It's been 20 years since Goliath first struck, but it's not necessarily a cold case, as he's still out there wreaking havoc.

The first look trailer helps fill in the blanks:

In the above clip, Nesbitt's character is advised to let go of the past, with his colleague (Michael Smiley) saying, "At some point the past has to die." The dedicated detective doesn't agree, replying, "Not for me."

He is clearly on a mission to take Goliath down.

Bloodlands is scheduled to premiere on BBC One in the U.K. and Acorn TV in the U.S., later this year. You can also catch Nesbitt discussing the series on this Friday's episode of The Graham Norton Show, starting at 11pm EST on BBC America.

Who do you think will come out on top in this cat and mouse chase?
