We last saw Jonathan Rhys Meyers in the period drama Vikings (2017-2019) as Bishop Heahmund. He's now set to star in a new project, also a period drama, taking on the lead in the forthcoming movie Edge of the World, reports Deadline. 

Rhys Meyers stars as Sir James Brooke, a British soldier whose adventures are dramatized in the new action flick. In 1839, Brooke travels from the U.K. to Borneo, where he becomes the governor of Sarawak. He works to suppress piracy and slavery, earning the respect of the Sultan of Brunei, who in return makes Brooke the Rajah of Sarawak. 

In the new clip, we see Brooke discuss his plans with a native of the island (Josie Ho):

In the above clip, Brooke speaks the indigenous language, with his new friend stepping in, meeting him halfway, using English.

While Brooke is on an epic journey, and has a lot of work ahead of him, the conversation turns to happiness and how to fulfill it.

It seems his search goes beyond exploration.

We know what happened historically, with Brooke acting as leader of Sarawak from 1941-1968, but we're intrigued to see it play out on-screen.
