New Trailer: Kenneth Branagh is Back as Hercule Poirot in 'Death on the Nile'
Agatha Christie's beloved character Detective Hercule Poirot has been portrayed by numerous actors over the years, with Austin Trevor being the first in 1931, Peter Ustinov starring in six movie adaptations, and David Suchet stepping in for the long-running TV series Poirot (1989-2013).
Adding to the list, actor-director Kenneth Branagh took his turn as the Belgian sleuth in 2017, starring in Murder on the Orient Express, which he also directed.
And now he's back for round two. Branagh returns as the mustache-donning crime solver in Death on the Nile, which is set to release on October 23.
If you’re not familiar with the story, originally published in 1937, Death on the Nile is set in Egypt, where Poirot is on vacation. He’s off the clock from investigating crimes, but when there’s a murder on the steam ship he's traveling on, he finds he can’t just ignore the troubling situation.
And putting it mildly, there are A LOT of familiar faces in the first look clip, including Wonder Woman's Gal Gadot, Sex Education's Emma Mackey, French and Saunders' Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, Black Panther's Letitia Wright, Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie, Doctor Who's Sophie Okonedo, comedian Russell Brand and Call Me by Your Name's Armie Hammer.
The first look trailer kicks off with a voiceover of Poirot saying, "The romance of the desert has the power to seduce." Hmm, we never thought of landscape like that, but it is a kind of a sexy atmosphere.
The story of obsessive love, jealousy and murder rolls out in the below:

It's not just a lot of known actors, but there is a a lot of action in the above, figuratively and literally.
Do you think Kenneth Branagh can pull off Poirot?
