Babies can be cute and cuddly, but even so, it can be scary taking care of someone so vulnerable. The forthcoming HBO series, The Baby, explores the anxieties of child-rearing, but in a decidedly scarier and different way.
Michelle De Swarte stars as a new mum to an infant, but it turns out this baby is not hers. In the recently released trailer, we see a baby falling from the sky and landing in her arms. We hear her chatting to the baby, saying, “I know I’m not your mum and you know I’m not your mum.” That is quite a telling statement and the below clip reveals even more:
It's not just Natasha and her baby who know something isn't right, even her friend asks, “You had a baby?” After all, babies don’t just show up out of nowhere or from the sky — something is definitely amiss.
We have a lot of questions as to what exactly is going on here, but thankfully the official description fills in some of the blanks: “It centers around 38-year-old Natasha, who is furious that her closest friends are all having babies,” reads the synopsis. “But when she is unexpectedly landed with a baby of her own, her life dramatically implodes. Controlling, manipulative, but incredibly cute, the baby twists Natasha’s life into a surreal horror show. As she discovers the true extent of the baby’s deadly nature, Natasha makes increasingly desperate attempts to get rid of it. She doesn’t want a baby. But the baby definitely wants her.”
The eight-part series is set to premiere on April 24 over at HBO. You can look for the series in the U.K. via Sky Atlantic with a release date still to come.
