We saw Natalie Portman in 2011’s Thor as Jane Foster. She returned to reprise the role in the 2013 follow-up, entitled Thor: The Dark World. But, she was absent for 2017’s Thor: Ragnorak.
It was believed we wouldn’t see her in the franchise again, but that’s all changed. Portman is set to star in the forthcoming Thor: Love and Thunder, reports Deadline.
Portman will return as Foster and we will see her transform into Mighty Thor. The plot is pulled from the 2014 comic-book storyline, where Foster is able to pick up Thor's hammer, called Mjölnir, earning her the title of Goddess of Thunder.
In case you missed it, here’s a peek at the trailer for the original movie:
And, here is where we are now with the next installment:
We can also look for Chris Hemsworth to reprise his role as Thor. He seems okay with sharing the spotlight and hammer. When asked about the casting during a red carpet appearance, he responded, “Awesome!”
The official description provides some background: “The film finds Thor (Hemsworth) on a journey unlike anything he’s ever faced – a quest for inner peace. But his retirement is interrupted by a galactic killer known as Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks the extinction of the gods. To combat the threat, Thor enlists the help of King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Taika Waititi) and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Portman), who – to Thor’s surprise – inexplicably wields his magical hammer, Mjolnir, as the Mighty Thor. Together, they embark upon a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance and stop him before it’s too late.”
You can look for Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8.
Is there room for two Thors in the universe?
