A third Paddington movie has been in the works for a while, and now there are some concrete plans in place.
Paddington, the fun-loving bear who traveled from Peru to England, is now heading home. The official title has been announced, which puts a spotlight on his native country, entitled Paddington in Peru.
The Hollywood Reporter has announced all the fun facts, including Dougal Wilson is set to direct. This will be Wilson’s first go at a feature film. Production will begin in 2023, taking place in both England and Peru.
Paul King, who directed the original movie and its sequel, released a statement, saying, “After 10 years of working on the Paddington movies, I feel absurdly protective of the little bear, and I’m delighted that Dougal will be there to hold his paw as he embarks on his third big-screen adventure. Dougal’s work is never less than astounding: funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative and totally original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to ‘Please Look After This Bear.’ I know Dougal will do so admirably.”
Wilson will be taking over directing duties, saying, “As a huge fan of the first two films, I am very excited (if not a little intimidated) to be continuing the story of Paddington. It’s a massive responsibility, but all my efforts will be focused on making a third film that honors the love so many people have for this very special bear.”
The cast has yet to be announced. In the original we saw Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins as Mr. and Mrs. Brown, who brought Paddington into their home. Ben Whishaw provided the voice of the charming bear.
Fingers crossed they are all set to return.
