Patrick Dempsey's Returning to TV for Harry Quebert Mystery Thriller Series
We last saw Patrick Dempsey portraying Bridget Jones's love interest in the third film of the Bridget Jones's Diary trilogy. And, prior to that, we last-last saw him as McDreamy, aka Dr. Derek Shepherd, on the long-running Grey's Anatomy.
It hasn't been crazy long since the actor's "uncoupling" from American TV, with his character leaving Grey's in 2015, but the hiatus is officially over.
Dempsey will, however, be stepping into the mystery thriller genre. He'll be taking on the role of Harry Quebert in anfg adaptation of Joël Dicker’s 2012 novel The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, reports Entertainment Weekly.
The 10-part series has yet to be named, but we have an idea of what to expect in terms of the story. Dempsey's Harry Quebert is a modern-day literary giant, who's indicted for murder when a young girl's body is found on his property in Maine. The 15-year-old had gone missing years ago, and the cold case is now being re-opened.
Ben Schnetzer (Snowden) will play Harry's menthe and novelist, Marcus Goldman. Goldman is at his house visiting, battling a bad case of writer's block, but walks into something quite unexpected.
We can also look for Damon Wayans Jr. (Happy Endings), a police sergeant investigating the girl's death, and Virginia Madsen (Designated Survivor) as a local diner owner, who seems to know more Quebert than the rest of the town.
Jean-Jacques Annaud, the Oscar-winning director of Black and White in Color, also known for Seven Years in Tibet, will direct.
It hasn't yet been announced which channel or streaming service will air the series, but we'll be sure to update you once we know.
Dempsey's first on-screen role was in 1985, starring in Heaven Help Us. Other evergreen favorites from the '80s include Can't Buy Me Love and Loverboy.
If these are new to you, or you just want to dip back into the past, here's a clip of Dempsey playing the lead in 1989's Loverboy:
