It's been tossed around that the historical series The Crown, which documents Queen Elizabeth II's reign over Great Britain, may not be considered 100 percent fact — as who's to know what's said behind closed doors?

The U.K. Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has asked that Netflix include a warning on the series, saying, "It’s a beautifully produced work of fiction, so as with other TV productions, Netflix should be very clear at the beginning it is just that. Without this, I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact," reports Deadline. 

Emma Corrin, who has joined the series to take on the role of Princess Diana, has voiced her opinion on the matter. She does not agree with the suggestion, going so far as to call it "mad."

Corrin had a chat with The Daily Beast, saying, "The Crown is accurate insofar as it’s about a family over a period of time, and we have factual information about what happened to the country and to the family. So you can write down all the facts as if it were a timeline, but all the substance is fictitious," reports the Radio Times.

She elaborated on her reasoning, providing an example, saying, “We can know that Diana and Camilla went to a restaurant called Menage A Trois, which is hysterically ironic, but it happened, but we obviously don’t know what was said, so that is fiction. But that’s how a lot of series operate."

Corrin ends the conversation on this note, saying, “It’s mad that they want to label it as ‘fiction’ when you have Diana: In Her Own Words where she talks about everything, and it’s much more harrowing.”

Netflix refers to The Crown as a drama and has no plans to include a disclaimer.
