Russell Tovey has another fun role coming up. You can look for him in American Horror Story: NYC, the latest installment in the cult horror anthology, which debuts Wednesday (October 19) on FX. Ahead of its season premiere, we're taking the opportunity to celebrate the things we love about Tovey not just as an actor, but also as a person.
1. He's a proud dog owner.
If you follow Tovey on Instagram, you'll know he often posts photos of Rocky, his adorable French bulldog. Judging from Tovey's feed, Rocky is a pooch with a very active social life.

2. He was an original Being Human star.
Tovey starred in the first three seasons (and episode one of season four) of BBC America's hit supernatural show. His character George Sands is smart, hard-working, but rather conflicted about being a werewolf – as you probably would be, in fairness. According to the Radio Times, Tovey said in 2016 that a reunion special "would be kind of fun," so never say never, eh?
3. He also appeared in BBC America's Queers series.
Curated by Mark Gatiss, this incredibly poignant series of short films marked 50 years since homosexuality in the U.K. was finally decriminalized. Tovey starred in "More Anger," an episode set in 1987 as the HIV/AIDS epidemic was tearing through the gay male community.
4. He's good friends with Miranda favorite Sarah Hadland.
Tovey and Hadland starred together in the ITV sitcom The Job Lot, which ran from 2013 to 2015. But, they're very much still pals and pop up on one other's Instagram accounts regularly. A night out with this pair definitely looks like a lot of fun.

5. He always speaks candidly about being gay.
Tovey has been "out" throughout his acting career and doesn't shy away from talking about the highs and lows of navigating the world as a queer person. In a 2021 interview with The Sunday Times, he revealed that when he came out to his parents at age 18, his dad thought he could be "cured" of homosexuality.
"To him, being gay was a road of pitfalls and unhappiness; out of love he wanted to correct this weakness, to put cotton wool around me and protect me from all that," Tovey recalled. "People react in different ways, there’s no rhyme or reason, but if you love someone you have to respect the process."
6. He's a very emotional person.
Tovey says as much in this fun interview with PrideSource, in which he discusses his impressive ability to cry on screen. "What other job can you cry your eyes out and everyone gives you a round of applause after?" he notes with a smile.
7. He's a super-passionate art lover.
Tovey even co-hosts his own podcast, Talk Art, with gallerist Robert Diament. We especially love the way he's keen to make art more accessible and less intimidating to everyday folks.
“Contemporary art, especially, is all about the moment," he told The Observer in 2019. "The artist is trying to tell their story. So I feel like if you buy art, you’re part of the dialogue about history, and you’re contributing a little bit, by looking after it, to all these stories that are going to live for ever. Art is s for everyone and outlives you."
