Ridley Scott Is Working on a Sequel for YouTube Documentary Film ‘Life in a Day’

In 2011, Ridley Scott executive-produced the documentary Life in a Day, directed by Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland). The feature-length film relied on submissions from people worldwide who shot what was going on in their life on one specific day, July 24, 2010.

If this inventive film snuck by you, here's a look at the trailer:

This goes unsaid, but there is A LOT going on out there (in the world, that is). And, it's easy to only see things that are right in front of you. The first film resulted in 80,000 submissions, including scenes pulled from 4,800 hours, spanning 192 nations. That's A LOT of land to cover.

Fast forward to now, Scott and Macdonald are at it again, reports Deadline. Their next go around is called Life in a Day 2020. While they're just getting started, we can expect to see the finished product in 2021, premiering at Sundance Film Festival.

It seems to be the same formula, inviting people to film their day on July 25, 2020, and send in their submission.

Macdonald talked about what a fulfilling process this has been, saying in a statement, "Making the first Life in a Day was one of the most joyful and eye-opening experiences of my life. Contributors were generous enough to share often quite intimate moments from their lives as part of a huge, life-affirming, film-making experiment."

His words are so sweet, kind, and grateful... and he makes a great point, the film is reliant on viewers taking part.

He goes on to say, "I am thrilled, 10 years later, that we are making Life In A Day 2020. In that time, how have we changed? How has our relationship to filming ourselves changed? And at this extraordinary turning point in history what are we hoping for in our future?"

It will be quite interesting to see the answer to his question, "How have we all changed?"

Have we? And, if so, how?

If you're so inclined to participate, Scott and Macdonald explain how it works in the below clip:
