Sir Billy Connolly to Revisit His Legendary Stand-Up Career in New TV Series
One of the U.K.'s best loved stand-up comedians, Sir Billy Connolly, is making a new retrospective series about his life and career.
Titled Billy Connolly Does..., the six-part series has been commissioned by British cable network UKTV, and will air on comedy channel Gold later this year.
"I'm really looking forward to sharing a few of my favorite moments from over the years ... it's been brilliant, and I hope you'll come along for the ride!" Connolly said in a press release.
According to the release, "each episode will cover a particular topic, whether that's work, sex, travel, childhood and parenthood or love and marriage." UKTV also promises that the series will "showcase classic and hidden treasures of Billy's stand-up routines" as well as offering an "unrivaled" glimpse into his life.
Connolly, 78, was voted the greatest stand-up comedian of all-time in two separate polls commissioned by Channel 4 in 2007 and 2010. He revealed in 2013 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and confirmed last year that he has now retired from live performance.
"The Parkinson's has made my brain work differently and you need to have a good brain for comedy," he told Sky News. "It [stand-up] was lovely and it was lovely being good at it. It was the first thing I was ever good at, and I'm delighted and grateful to it."
Billy Connolly Does... will be shot in and around Connolly's home in Florida. There's no word yet on a U.S. air date, but it's surely only a matter of time before it gets picked up by a network or streamer.
