Here's a fun fact: Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Helen Mirren have never worked together on screen. Crazy, right?

But that's all about to change. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pair of acting greats will star in new movie The Good Liar.

It tells the story of a career con artist named Roy Courtnay (Sir Ian) and well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Dame Helen). Roy is surprised to find himself starting to care about Betty, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into a treacherous cat-and-mouse game that risks everything.

We don't know about you, but we're getting a definite Dirty Rotten Scoundrels vibe from this one.

The film will be directed by Bill Condon, making it the fourth time he's worked with Sir Ian. The pair first partnered on 1998’s Gods and Monsters, the film that earned Condon his first career Oscar for Best Screenplay, and Sir Ian a Best Actor nomination for his performance as famed Hollywood director James Whale. The director and actor team worked together again in 2015 on Mr. Holmes, which saw Sir Ian play an aging Sherlock Holmes, and again in 2017 for Beauty and the Beast, with Sir Ian voicing the character of Cogsworth.

But it's the pairing of Sir Ian and Dame Helen we're really excited about. The actors, who are long-term friends and have shared the stage together numerous times, most notably in 2001 when they both appeared in August Strindberg play Dance of Death on Broadway, have never starred in the same film.

Perhaps the only time they've shared camera time was in 2016 when Sir Ian even made this (rather shonky!) video of his old mucker in Stratford upon Avon, when the pair appeared on stage together to celebrate the life and work of Shakespeare 400 years since his death.

Needless to say, we can't wait to see them step in front of the camera together — with a great director at the helm.
