Sir Michael Caine to Host True Crime Podcast About 'Utterly Astounding' Heists

Sir Michael Caine is getting into podcasting with a six-part series telling the stories of some "utterly astounding" real-life heists.

The veteran actor – who has starred in a range of heist movies over the years including Gambit, The Italian Job, Now You See Me, Going in Style, and King of Thieves – has maintained social distancing by completing Heist with Michael Caine in a custom-made home studio.

He said of the upcoming podcast: “Throughout my career I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in some of cinema’s most famous heists, but the true stories in this series are utterly astounding."

“They really do mean it when they say fact is stranger than fiction – the ingenuity of the perpetrators, and the determination of those working to bring them to justice, is a marvel to listen to. To amend a much-loved phrase, this podcast’ll blow your bloody socks off.”

The six-part series will debut July 7 on Audible, with the first episode delving into the United California Bank robbery of 1972, the largest bank burglary in U.S. history.

Audible's Aurelie De Troyer added: "The U.K. entered lockdown mid-way through production, but despite that challenge Sir Michael powered through. Working remotely with our team of producers and sound engineers to build a custom home set-up, he continued to record safely and diligently – and for that we are enormously grateful."

Caine, 87, who has more than 130 films and two Oscars to his name, will next be seen in Christopher Nolan's new spy movie Tenet, which co-stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debicki, and is due July 31.

You can whet your appetite by watching Sir Michael Caine talk about his time in Hollywood making Gambit during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
