The folks over at Marvel are going the nostalgia route, adapting the 1980s comic series New Mutants into a feature-length film.

Writer/director Josh Boone has referred to the original comics as, "Stephen King meets John Hughes," in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. And, keeping with the theme, the '80s based Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton is being recruited to portray a teenage mutant, reports Empire.

Heaton, who you may recognize from the hit Netflix series as odd man out Jonathan Byers, is in talks to take on the role of Cannonball, who possesses the power of flight.

New Mutants revolves around the first graduates from Charles Xavier's school. There's no mention of who will be playing Professor X, whether James McAvoy will return to reprise the role, or somebody new, but we can look for Anglo fan favorite Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane and Anna Taylor-Joy (Split) in the role of Magik.

In the interview with EW, Boone, who directed The Fault in Our Stars, talked about how he plans to treat this early group of mutants, saying, "There are no costumes. There are no supervillains. We’re trying to do something very, very different."

He also revealed an element of his film that is new to the franchise, saying, "We are making a full-fledged horror movie set within the X-Men universe."

The above is a promo clip for X-Men: Apocalypse, but it's not too strange to think there may be some cross-over in the X-Men universe.
