Joker leads the pack at this year's BAFTA Film Awards with 11 nominations including Best Film, Best Actor for Joaquin Phoenix, and Best Director for Todd Phillips.

Martin Scorsese's The Irishman and Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are right behind with 10 nominations apiece.

Following his Golden Globes win on Sunday, Rocketman's Taron Egerton is nominated for Best Actor, where he'll face competition from Phoenix, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood's Leonardo DiCaprio, Marriage Story's Adam Driver, and The Two Popes' Jonathan Pryce.

Little Women's Florence Pugh and Saoirse Ronan both received nominations, for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress respectively. Sunday night Golden Globe winners Renee Zellweger, Laura Dern, and Brad Pitt are nominated too.

However, the nominations have come in criticism on social media for their lack of diversity. No actors of color have been nominated in any of the four main acting categories, while for the seventh year running all five Best Director nominees are male.

Black British actress Cynthia Erivo, considered an Oscar frontrunner for her performance in Harriet is snubbed, but Scarlett Johansson (Marriage Story, Jojo Rabbit) and Margot Robbie (Bombshell, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) receive two nominations each.

BAFTA CEO Amanda Berry said in response to the criticism: "The lack of diversity in today’s nominations is hugely disappointing to see. Our year round activity has many strands that focus on diversity. It’s clear there is much more to be done and we plan to double down on our efforts to affect real change and to continue to support, and encourage the industry on the urgency of doing so much more."

However, there is greater diversity in the EE Rising Star Award nominations, where Awkwafina (The Farewell), Jack Lowden (Fighting with My Family), Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (Waves), and Micheal Ward (Blue Story) are in contention.

Graham Norton has already been announced as host of this year's BAFTA Film Awards. The ceremony takes place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on February 2 2020, and it’ll air that night at 9/8c on BBC America.
