Taron Egerton Speaks Candidly About Bond Rumors

Until Daniel Craig's successor as 007 is officially announced, at least a dozen young actors can expect to field questions about playing the world's most famous (fictional) secret agent.
Among them is Taron Egerton, who appears to have distanced himself from the iconic role in a new interview. "I don't think I'm the right choice for it; you have to be consistently statuesque to be that guy," the actor told the Daily Telegraph. "And that's something that I am still striving for. I've always struggled with my weight."
Continuing, Egerton also pointed out that playing Bond "is a bit like being a brand ambassador as well as being an actor," with producer Barbara Broccoli very much the gatekeeper of this brand. "And that could be really fun in microcosm," he added, "but I'm sure I read that Barbara Broccoli said that it's a 15-year commitment."
Egerton went on to emphasize that he has not been approached about the role, saying: "It's sort of irrelevant how I feel about it, anyway, because I can tell you there have been zero phone calls."
So, there you have it – Egerton doesn't appear to want to be in the running, but actors including James Norton, Regé-Jean Page, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Henry Cavill, and Tom Hardy are still very much part of the conversation, at least among fans.
Meanwhile, we'll see Egerton next in Tetris, a biographical movie about the creation of the 1980s computer game. It premieres later this month (March) on Apple TV+. You can also relive a charming moment from the actor on The Graham Norton Show below.
