Tatiana Maslany to Make Her Broadway Debut With Bryan Cranston in 'Network'
What's left to do when you've played almost every part in an award-winning TV show and conquering the Emmys? Broadway, that's what.
Deadline reports Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany is poised to make her Broadway debut alongside Bryan Cranston in the West End transfer of Network this fall.
Tatiana will play Diana Christensen, the ratings-obsessed, amoral television executive who was chillingly brought to life on screen by Faye Dunaway in the 1976 film. She won an Oscar for that performance, as did Peter Finch for his role as Howard Beale, the mentally unstable anchorman whose famous on-air rant ("I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this any more!") drives up the ratings.
Billy Elliott writer Lee Hall adapted the film into a stage play last year, which showed at the National Theatre in London and starred Bryan Cranston in the lead role.
That run was a huge success, gaining rave reviews and earning Bryan an Olivier award. He'll reprise the role for the Broadway version, while Tatiana takes over from Michelle Dockery, who's now far too busy filming the Downton Abbey movie to rejoin the cast on Broadway.
Really busy, as the photo she posted yesterday (September 10) on Instagram confirms:
Network will begin previews at the Belasco Theatre November 10, before officially opening on December 6. The rest of the cast is yet to be announced, though we're not ruling out the possibility that the multi-talented Tatiana will play every other role too.
